John Matkowsky, RCIC, CIM, MFin, BCOM

Managing Partner & Immigration Consultant

John is the founding partner of Matkowsky Immigration and he practices in all areas of immigration law, particularly focusing on more complex immigration cases. He is a licensed Senior Immigration Consultant, and is a member in good standing with the CICC. John holds a Masters of Applied Finance from Macquarie University, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Queens University and holds a Chartered Investment Manager designation.
 

Earlier in his career he worked in the financial markets as a Chartered Investment Manager and trader for large Canadian Banks and Private Family Trusts. John transitioned from helping individuals and families manage their investments to helping them immigrate to Canada under investor and business immigration programs.  Today, John practices in all areas of immigration law, helping clients make Canada home.

John lived in New York City, Indonesia, Australia and Hong Kong and dealt with many immigration issues himself, which guided him into practicing Immigration law.

Sonia Akilov, J.D., BA (Honours)

Managing Partner & Senior Immigration Lawyer

Sonia holds a Jurisprudence Doctor degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Political Science, Law & Society from York University.

Prior to joining Matkowsky Immigration, Sonia practiced immigration law with two of Canada’s largest immigration law firms - Green and Spiegel, and KPMG law. Sonia has experience helping both individuals and Fortune 500 companies with their immigration matters.

Sonia's specialized skill set includes helping clients with difficult issues such as:
