In today's Express Entry Draw, IRCC issued 4,500 invitations to individuals with a cut-off score of 357+, who qualify under Canadian Experience Class.
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, IRCC has only been selecting candidates who have at least 1 year of Canadian Work Experience. There has not been a draw for Foreign Skilled Workers since March 4th, 2020. IRCC may be waiting till such a time where people in Canada are vaccinated before issuing invitations to Foreign Skilled Workers. Currently, 80% of people in Canada have received 1 vaccine shot and 49% are full vaccinated. IRCC may be close to resuming invitations to Foreign Skilled Workers.
Individuals with Canadian Experience should take advantage of the low CRS scores, before IRCC opens up the draw to inviting Federal Skilled Workers.
To be a good candidate to obtain PR
The CRS score is anticipated to remain range bound between 450 and the 470 level, once IRCC resumes issuing invitations to Foreign Skilled Workers. With CRS scores in this range, it is very difficult for someone outside of Canada to apply directly for PR via Express Entry. In order to be a good candidate to apply for PR, individuals currently need to come to Canada as a student or obtain a work permit to gain the additional points necessary to score 460+ points. Alternatively, a foreign worker must be sponsored by a Canadian company to obtain a work permit which is challenging. However, there are a couple work permits that do not require sponsorship, such as a working holiday visa or an individual buying a business in Canada and obtaining an Owner Operator Work Permit to manage their own business.
Individuals who study or work in Canada earn between 55 and 125 additional points more than an individual from outside Canada. It has now reached a point where no individual can apply for PR from outside Canada without having Canadian schooling or Canadian work experience. However, as discussed above, this may change in future draws. This has yet to be determined.
